What is PRF?
PRF stands for Platelet-rich fibrin. When a patient comes in for this treatment, a blood sample is taken and spun at a high speed in a machine known as a centrifuge. The blood separates into layers, one that has a golden appearance, hence PRF’s nickname, “liquid gold.” This liquid gold layer of platelets contains powerful growth factors and stem cells that encourage the body to produce collagen and promote wound healing in the area where they are re-injected. This treatment is considered regenerative medicine.
Benefits of PRF
PRF treatment in the office helps the skin to build collagen. Collagen is the protein in the skin that helps to keep it firm and prevent wrinkling by injecting PRF in an area such as the under-eyes. Collagen production kickstarts help to thicken the skin and hide the appearance of darkness. The thinnest skin in our body is located around the eyes. PRF treatment can address the under-eye hollows and reduce the appearance of eye wrinkles, therefore giving a brighter, smoother appearance. This procedure has minimal downtime and little to no side effects. Since the PRF is obtained from your blood, your body will not recognize it as a foreign body, making it a great option for all (including those who may not be a candidate for filler).
How many treatments do I need?
Patients typically require between 2-4 sessions spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.
